Nearly half of all domestic violence victim-survivors remain in abusive situations rather than leave their pets behind.
Minnesota Pet Coalition (MNPC) is a unique collaboration of three of the largest domestic violence organizations (Women’s Advocates, Cornerstone and Tubman) and three renowned animal well-being nonprofits (The Bond Between, Four Winds Connections and Animal Humane Society) in the Twin Cities metro area. Because nearly half of all domestic violence victim-survivors remain in abusive situations rather than leave their pets behind, MNPC aims to connect every victim-survivor of domestic violence with reliable foster care for their pets while they seek safety.
MNPC operates with the help of more than 150 volunteer fosters and is able to serve both victim-survivors who choose to stay in shelter and those who choose to stay with family or friends. MNPC’s volunteer fosters can care for a pet on a short-term or long-term basis while the pet’s guardian finds safety and healing, seeks legal counsel and searches for housing. The program offers comprehensive support that encompasses all of a companion animal’s needs, including food, veterinary care, behavioral support, supplies, training and enrichment, as well as support upon reunion of the victim-survivor and their pet.
Together, MNPC is placing freedom and safety within reach of more victim-survivors of domestic violence and the pets they love.
